Founded: Dorcas Medical Ministries was founded in 1995 by Rev. Larry Koontz
and his wife Sarah to answer God's call to their hearts to Unlock the Gospel
Door with the Key of Medicine for the Kanuri of N.E. Nigeria. The Kanuri are a
tribe of 3.5-4 million souls with only 25-40 known devoted Christians. The
Kanuri were one of the first African tribes to embrace Islam and are not open to
conventional evangelistic methods. The vision is to establish
relationships with the Kanuri tribal elders, thereby opening the door for
the Gospel to be preached.

Kanuri Outreach: In 1995, Larry began making multiple trips annually to
Nigeria with the aid of doctors and other medical personnel to work among
the Kanuri people. God has brought Larry together with a faithful and
effective team of Nigerian nationals who assist him with the work among the
Kanuri people. The center of their operations is the village of Yale just S.E.
of Maiduguri in N.E. Nigeria near the Cameroon border. A goal of their vision
is to construct a permanent medical clinic, Clinic of Refuge, to minister to
the spiritual needs as well as the physical needs of the Kanuri. The
Nigerian Outreaches are conducted twice a year in October/November and
February/March.
Mission Hearts: Ordained as a minister in 1975 and
called into missions in 1977, Larry and Sarah were married in 1978 and have
three children; twins Robert and Lauren, and their youngest, Kristen. Since
their marriage, they have been active in overseas missions ministering in
Mexico, Jamaica, England, Haiti, Barbados, St. Vincent, Philippines, Romania,
Albania, Brazil and Nigeria.
Promoting Missions: Stateside, Larry continue to promote mission awareness and involvement
among the church body. In addition, they are both registered nurses with
secular jobs at local Atlanta, Georgia hospitals.
